Convert Excel Dates to Weekday, Year, Month, Quarter, Hour
DigDB offers two ways to convert an area of Date or Time values to Weekday, Year, Month, Quarter, or Hour.
Select a range of cells, convert the cells in-place
- Select a range. Only the cells that are date or time values will be converted.
- Invoke 'DigDB->Selected Area->Convert->Date to->Weekday' for example,
- Result is: (cells are converted in-place)
Converting date/time to Month, Year, Quarter, Hour is the same.
Convert an entire column in a table
- Select a single cell in a Table's column. The entire column will be converted, with the converted values
stored in a new column inserted next to the original column.
- Invoke 'DigDB->Column->Convert->Date to->Month' for example,
- Result is: (a new column is inserted to store the converted values)
Converting date/time to Weekday, Year, Quarter, Hour is the same.
Converting date column + roll-up (pivot table, subtotal)
Suppose we have a sales records data list like the following. There is only a Date column in the list.
How do we do roll-ups (pivot table, or subtotal) to summarize, for example, the sales by Year, Month, Quarter,
Weekday?
We can simply convert the 'Date' column to Year, Month, Quarter, Weekday, Hour. Then we will
have new columns that are the corresponding Year, Month, Quarter, Weekday, Hour. Then we can do the
roll-up, pivot table, subtotal as usual.
For demo on roll-ups, go here.
