Set (fill) Cells of a Range to Random Values

Select one or multiple ranges, set the cells in the selected area to random values. DigDB allows you to set boundaries of the values, and with options to:

Generate random integer number values

  1. Select one or several ranges. Use Ctrl+Select to select multiple ranges. Invoke 'DigDB->Selected Area->Set Cells to->Random Values...'

  2. Enter the boundary values you want. The random value defaults to integer numbers. You can use the dropdown to change to date values. Uncheck the 'Values in Integer or Day' checkbox to generate random number with decimal or day with time.

  3. Result - all cells in selection will be overwritten.

Generate random decimal number values

    Fill the current selection with random decimal values between 0 and 1. Set the boundary to 0 and 1; uncheck the 'Values in Integer or Day' checkbox.

    The 0 and 1 in result are decimal values. Click Excel's 'Format->Cells' to format the selected range to 'General' or any number format you want.

Generate random day-only date values

    Fill the current selection with random day-only date values between 10/26/03 to 10/26/04. Change the dropdown to 'Dates', set the boundary values.

Generate random day-with-time date values

    Fill the current selection with random time values within a day. Change dropdown to 'Dates'; set the boundary values to between: 10/25/04 00:00 and 10/26/04 00:00 (note the 10/25/04 24:00 is NOT a valid time format); uncheck the 'Values in Integer or Day' checkbox.

    If the filled values show as '10/25/04', it's just a formatting issue. Those values are day-with-time values. Click Excel's 'Format->Cells' to format the selected range to 'General' or choose the time format you want.
