Split a Table (List) into Sub Tables

• Split table by values in column(s)

  This will break apart a list into sub tables by the values in one or several columns. Taking a 'horses' list for example, suppose it has columns like 'Name', 'Age', 'Color', 'Bodymark'. We can look at each age sub group by breaking it apart by the values in the 'Age' column. Thus, the 3-year-old horses will be in a sheet, 2-year-old in another, etc.

• Split table by a fixed number of rows

  This is needed, for example, to meet some file submission requirement. You may have a file with 60,000 rows, and but the file server may require you to break it down into 5000-row per sheet or per file chunks before you can submit it. Doing this manually is a tedious job. DigDB allows you to do it with a few clicks.

Split table by values in column(s)

1. Click a single cell in your table area. Invoke 'DigDB->Table->Split->by Values in Column(s)...', the table area will be automatically selected.

2. Select using which column(s) to split the table by

   

   You can use the 'Add Column >>' button to add multiple columns to split by. For example, instead of breaking the list into subsets by 'age', you can break it apart by each unique combination of 'color' and 'body_mark', then you will need to add the two columns to the split-by criteria.

3. Select where to put the sub tables. Each sub table can be in a new sheet, new file (workbook), or next to each other.

   

4. Click OK. Result of the split: 5 new sheets, each sheet has a subtable, the name of the sheets is set to the corresponding values in the column.

2. Set the options.
